Thanksgiving Travel, Click It or Ticket, Watch for Deer

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is temporarily suspending most construction along major highways to facilitate smoother travel during the holiday season. Work on interstates, U.S. routes, and key state routes will be halted until the evening of December 2 to keep lanes open. Drivers traveling to or from Tennessee should note that Interstate 40 is closed near the state line.

Additionally, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s annual Thanksgiving “Click It or Ticket” campaign is in effect, with increased patrols and checkpoints to catch impaired drivers, speeders, and those not wearing seatbelts.

As deer activity increases during the shorter days, drivers are urged to stay alert, especially at dusk and dawn. NCDOT offers safety tips, including slowing down in deer-prone areas, using high beams when safe, and watching for movement along the roadside.
