PIKEVILLE — On Nov. 29 at approximately 9:40 pm, a prowler call was received at 347 Nor-Am Rd. in Pikeville.
Six suspects attempted to make entry to the residence and fled on foot after an unsuccessful attempt.
Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded but could not locate anyone in the area.
On Nov. 30 at approximately 2:44 am, at the same residence, two suspects returned with masks on and one was armed with a handgun.
A second attempt was made at entering the victim’s residence.
Deputies were already patrolling the area and arrived a short time later, but the suspects fled before their arrival.
It was determined that gunfire was exchanged between one of the suspects and a resident as they were fleeing.
As a result of the exchange of gunfire, the residence was struck.
The area was patrolled by deputies and troopers, and one of the suspects was located in the vicinity.
After a brief foot chase, a 15-year-old male suspect was taken into custody.
He is being charged with two counts of felony attempted first-degree burglary and one count of discharging a barreled weapon or firearm into an occupied property.
Additional suspects have yet to be identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
