During Monday night’s Goldsboro City Council meeting, Councilmember Hiawatha Jones was sworn in as the new Mayor Pro Tem.
Jones replaces District 4 representative Brandi Matthews, who was sworn in as Mayor Pro Tem on Dec. 4, 2023.
Jones, the District 1 representative, has been a member of the Goldsboro City Council since Feb. 25, 2021.
Per the City of Goldsboro’s charter (Sec. 3.4.), the city council and mayor shall choose a member of the city council as mayor pro-tem.
The mayor pro-tem shall perform the duties of the mayor in the mayor’s absence or disability.
The mayor pro-tem shall have no fixed term of office but shall serve in such capacity at the pleasure of the remaining city council and mayor.
