Doris Marie Howell Freeman, 93, passed away at Springbrook Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clayton on Sunday, November 24, 2024.  She was born in Johnston County on May 10, 1931, to the late Atlas Dewitt Howell and Catherine Norris Howell.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by daughter, Catherine Krumlauf; grandchildren, Donnie Nelson, Jason Starling, Russell Parker, and J.D. Shirley; great-grandchild, Chaos Causin; great-grandchild, Eli Brennenstuhl and her long-time-life partner, Boyce “Toad” Rains.

She is survived by sons, Edward Thomas Freeman, Jr. (Tammy) of Pikeville and Howard Dee Freeman (Penny) of Princeton; son-in-law, Mike Krumlauf of Rockbridge, Ohio; daughters, Bettie Anne Nelson (Dana) of Morgan Hill, Ca., Diana Freeman (Don Falk) of Princeton, Mona F. Sears (Larry) of WA. State, Carol Jean Starling of Kenly, Judy Shirley (Gary) of Wilson; sisters, Jean Parker (Carl) of Newport News, Va., Shirley Ann Wimmer (Bob) of Southern Pines, and Catherine Childs (Rick) of Newport News, Va.; 33 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Casey Funeral Home and Cremations.

The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in the chapel of Casey Funeral Home and Cremations.  Reverend Dwayne Batten will be officiating.  A private burial will take place in Princeton Cemetery.
