Cora Hope “Hopie” Edwards

December 1, 2024, 100, La Grange —

July 9, 1924 – December 1, 2024

Cora Hope “Hopie” Edwards, 100, was welcomed into life eternal on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Hopie was born in Lenoir County to the late William Thomas and Cora Hope Hughes Pelletier on July 9, 1924. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Johnnie C. Edwards, Cary Glen Edwards, and Delmar Kay Edwards; her former husband, Gerald Carson Edwards; nine siblings; and a special nephew, Royce Gray.

Devoted to her family, Hopie dedicated much of her day to the care of her children and maintaining the home. Between cooking, cleaning, working on the farm, and caring for her children, she kept a busy and active schedule. Fond memories of her cooking bring back thoughts of homemade pies that were filled with blueberries she picked herself, along with the many pans of biscuits she made from scratch.

With a zest for travel, Hopie enjoyed trips with her children and grandchildren, including trips out west, Boston, Pennsylvania, and Niagra Falls. Though the chance to travel wasn’t often, she loved every opportunity and embraced them as a gift.

Happiest when family was gathered around, Hopie worked diligently through the years to celebrate holidays and birthdays with the whole family. These opportunities were blessings to them all as they were able to spend time with their most precious gift of all—family. In later years when she was not able to continue this tradition, her daughter Betty Hope filled the void to make sure family connections remained strong.

A memorial service to honor Hopie’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Hopie is survived by her children, Tommy Edwards (Tina) and Betty Hope Edwards; grandchildren, Danielle S. Holland, Adam Cole Edwards, Dalton Edwards, and Josh Cavenaugh; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Goodwin and Sarah Woodard; special nieces, Yvonne Seaman, Jessie Potter, and Bonnie Gray; and a special nephew, Randy Gray.
