Larry Wilkins, 75, of Kenly, NC passed away Friday, December 6, 2024, after a brave battle with multiple health issues.
He was born in Duplin County on January 7, 194,9 to the late Luther “John” and Eleanor “Doodle” Wilkins of Summerlins Crossroads. Larry grew up on a farm and went on to join the Navy and proudly served his country for four years. After the Navy, Larry found his niche in selling parts in the parts department for several dealerships and made many good friends along the way.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie “Twigg” Wilkins; his beloved daughter, Shannon Wilkins and her significant other, Bryan Whitley of Mount Olive; his loving son, Darren Jones and wife, Karen of Kenly; eight grandchildren, Travis Memmelaar, Peyton Memmelaar Wiggins, Camden Finch, Ethan Jones, Kylie Jones, Grant Hardee, Lauren Hardee and Baker Sumner; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn Wiggins, Charlotte Wiggins and Colton Hardee; sisters, Ellen Bell, Susan Haynes (Benny) and Jonnie Grantham (Jeff).
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Janet Wilkins; mother and fathers-in-law, Evelyn and Walter Baker of Seven Springs and Doris and Stephen Minchew of Kenly.
Larry was a man of few words but loved to sneak in a joke and catch you off guard. He instilled many values and traits into them. He loved to work in the yard, tinker, and could fix anything one way or another. He was the patriarch and hero of our family and his words of advice and wisdom will be greatly missed. In his last years, he enjoyed spending time with his two loving faithful companions, Scooter and Booger.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. A graveside service with military honors will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.
