Alta Ann Byrd Williamson

December 10, 2024, 81, Goldsboro —

Alta Ann Byrd Williamson, 81, was welcomed into her eternal home on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Wayne County, North Carolina to the late Alton Ray Byrd and Lola Potts Byrd on June 1, 1943. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ralph L. Williamson; granddaughter, Bailey Eaddy; brother, James Ray “Jimmy” Byrd; and sisters, Gloria Byrd and Leona Byrd Brock.

Dedicated to her work, Ann served many years as a customer service representative in the banking industry. Never missing a day of work, her coworkers became friends as they shared day-to-day life.

Most importantly, Ann was a believer in Christ. She held various positions in her church, Falling Creek Baptist Church, where she attended most of her adult life and raised her family. She especially cherished the friendships she made with members of the Homemaker Sunday School Class. Though Ann’s body began to fail, her faith was still firm in the Lord.

Most of all, she loved her family. Ann had a heart of gold, loved deeply, encouraged others, and believed in all of us. She was bright, beautiful, funny, courageous, selfless, and giving. Her time on this Earth was well spent, and we will forever be grateful for the life and love she has given all of us.

The family will receive friends informally during a time of food and fellowship on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall of Falling Creek Baptist Church. A service to celebrate Ann’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary with Rev. Robert Ellis and Rev. Billy Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Cheryl Kornegay and husband, David and Bryan T. Williamson and wife, Nicki; grandchildren, Hunter Eaddy and wife, Katey, Brooke Kornegay and fiancée, Reed Parris, and Matthew Kornegay; great-grandchildren, Townes Eaddy, and August Eaddy; brother, David William Byrd; and sister-in-law, Janet Roberts Byrd.

The family would like to extend special appreciation to the caregivers who provided wonderful care for Ann. They include: Terri, June Ann, Lana, Wendy, and Erica. The love and selflessness shown to Ann have truly been a blessing in our lives.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her memory to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 498 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530, Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
