SMSGT James Arthur Jones, USAF, Ret, left behind this earthly life on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born on November 22, 1938, in Hinds County, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Alex Jones and Legirtha Jordan Jones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Sykes and Hazeltine Spann; father-in-law, Hugh Tom Simmons; mother-in-law, Alice Daniels and husband, Lewis Daniels; and sister-in-law, Michelle Keene.

James proudly served his country for 28 years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he dedicated 22 years to the United States Postal Service. A notable graduate of Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi, class of 1956, he took great pride in his education and service.

A man of many interests, James was passionate about racquetball and spent countless hours at the gym, maintaining an active lifestyle. He was known for his kindness and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand, and had a reputation for being someone who would give the shirt off his back for those in need.

James was a wonderful husband, father, and son, who loved taking care of his family. He played a significant role in raising his sister’s children after her passing, demonstrating his deep commitment to family and community. He took great pride in caring for his mother until her passing.

His warmth and unwavering support will forever be cherished by the love of his life of 55 years, Merle Simmons Jones; son, Dameon Jones and wife, Crystal; granddaughter, Cassidy Jones Love and husband, Justin; nieces and nephew that he helped raise, Felicia Garner, Barbara Walker, and Charles Sykes; mother-in-law, Evelyn Simmons; brothers-in-law, Andre Simmons, Thomas Simmons, and Tony Simmons; sisters-in-law, Andrea Newsome, Diann Vincent and a host of other relatives and friends.

A service to celebrate his life will take place Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 12 PM at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andy Stovall officiating. Burial will follow at 2 PM at Eastern Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery. The family will receive friendson Monday, December 16, 2024, from 4-5:30 PM at Seymour Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you reach out and help your fellow man, a testament to the values that James held dear to his heart.
