MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive celebrated the remarkable achievements of two students by presenting them with the prestigious Dr. Thomas R. Morris Award during its December Commencement.
The recipients, Axel Engren and David Matthew Morris were recognized for their outstanding academic excellence and were each awarded $1,500.
From Sundsvall, Sweden, Engren is a traditional student who earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Finance.
Described by his professors as “the type of student that all professors hope to have the privilege to teach,” Engren has excelled in his academics while also contributing as a member of the UMO soccer team.
Balancing athletics and studies, he attributes his success to “a hard-working mentality with a positive attitude.” Following graduation, Engren will join Deloitte’s auditing department.
From Holly Springs, Morris is an adult online student who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science.
Known for his dedication and academic prowess, Morris was described by his professors as “consistently the best student in class” and praised by his advisor as “an absolute pleasure during his educational journey.”
He completed his degree with a perfect GPA.
The Dr. Thomas R. Morris Award, established in honor of the late Dr. Thomas R. Morris, recognizes students with the highest academic averages.
Dr. Morris, a retired optometrist from Goldsboro, was a native of Nahunta in Wayne County and a lifelong member of the Union Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.
