Eleanor Rose Westbrook was born on August 20, 1953, in Goldsboro, North Carolina to the late Margaret Sanderson Westbrook and Ivan Woodall Westbrook. She passed away on December 10, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro after a long battle with cancer.
She was an educator for 34 years and resided in Camden, NC.
She was the granddaughter of the late Donnie Hood Sanderson and Ernest Kennedy Sanderson and the late Lizzie Thornton Westbrook and Grover Bayard Westbrook, Sr. Also, deceased are aunts and uncles, Edna Thornton Westbrook, G.B. and Dot Westbrook, Seth and Ruth Westbrook, and Joe and Doris Sanderson. Rose was the daughter-in-law of Borden and Walena S. Kornegay of Mount Olive.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, James Walton “Pete” Kornegay of Camden, son, Benjamin James Kornegay and wife Lauren Hadley Kornegay of Raleigh, NC; her brother Jeffrey Woodall Westbrook of Goldsboro, NC; cousins Martha W. Flowers and husband Phil, Nancy W. Moore and husband Gary, Susan W. Kornegay and husband Michael; Kenneth Sanderson and wife Vickey, David Sanderson; Margie S. Conley and husband Darrel; and Beth S. Peterson and husband Scott. Other survivors include brother-in law and sister-in-law Steve and Martha Kornegay of Goldsboro and niece Caroline Kornegay of Hillsborough and special friends Penny and Rick Durham of Apopka, Florida.
Services will be held at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC, 27534. Visitation will occur at Seymour Funeral Home at 1 pm, with a funeral at 2 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Graveside Services will follow at Wayne Memorial Park at 3 pm, 2925 US -117, 28333.
A memorial service will be held for Camden friends and neighbors at Camden Methodist Church at a later date.
