Albert “Shorty” Leon Crumpler Sr., 94, of Pikeville departed this earthly life Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 30, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Pikeville Cemetery.
Shorty, also known by Al, was born in Wayne County on January 31, 1930, to the late Albert Blackman Crumpler and Ruth Gurley Crumpler. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. Shorty enjoyed going to Hardee’s on Wayne Memorial Drive to eat breakfast with his dear friends, the Hardee’s Breakfast Club.
He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Al “Beau” Crumpler of Jacksonville, NC and Michael Clark Crumpler and wife, Sally of Wilmington; his daughters, Shelia Ann Sutton of Pikeville and Katrina Crumpler Rose of Fairfield; eight grandchildren, Wayne Crumpler, Kelly Jones, Michelle Marinelli, Hannah Crumpler, Sara Clark, Daniel Sutton, Patrick Myers and Waylon Crumpler; twenty-one great-grandchildren with one on the way and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona “Grandma” Clark Crumpler; two brothers, Wayne Garland Crumpler and James William “Bill” Crumpler and two sisters, Mary Lancaster and Velda Hardy.
