Wayne County Food Manufacturer Among Grant Recipients in North Carolina Agricultural Initiative

A Wayne County food manufacturer is one of several businesses awarded a grant from the second round of funding through the North Carolina Agricultural Manufacturing and Processing Initiative (NCAMPI), announced by Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.

The $6.6 million in grants aim to expand current operations, promoting the use of more North Carolina farm products while helping reduce costs for local farmers and growers. The initiative supports six key projects benefiting industries such as peanut, rice, barley, cucumber farming, and livestock production.

With these latest awards, the total funding allocated for NCAMPI grants has reached $19 million, effectively exhausting the available funds for the program.

“Our farmers and growers need more local options for processing and distribution,” Troxler said in a statement. “These NCAMPI grants will not only open new opportunities for farmers but also help reduce their costs and create more jobs and private investment in North Carolina. I’m grateful for the trust the General Assembly has placed in us to manage this initiative and look forward to supporting the continued growth and demand for this program.”

The NCDA&CS oversees the NCAMPI program, which was created with funding from the General Assembly to strengthen North Carolina’s agricultural manufacturing and food processing sectors.

The recipients of the December 2024 NCAMPI grants and their respective projects include:

  • Mt. Olive Pickles (Duplin County) – $3 million for pasteurizer
  • Sandy Land Peanut (Hertford County) – $1,319,652 for peanut processing
  • Tidewater Grain (Pamlico County) – $180,000 for grain storage bins
  • Harpley’s (Randolph County) – $642,000 for meat processing
  • Carolina Malt House (Rowan County) – $750,000 for malting barley
  • Phinite (Sampson County) – $750,000 for fertilizer manufacturing

These grants are expected to foster further growth in North Carolina’s agricultural industries, supporting the state’s economy and its farmers.
