George A. Spain, 84, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024 at UNC Health Wayne. Born in Goldsboro on March 11, 1940, he was the son of the late Haywood N. Spain and Louise J. Spain.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Katherine L. Spain, and sister, Lydia S. Pearson.
George is survived by his children, Jim Spain (Vickie) of Columbia, MO, B. Ross Spain of Raleigh, NC, and Beth Yeager of Pikeville, NC; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
George retired after 30 years of service with the Goldsboro Police Department, ending his career as a major in charge of the uniform division.
He was a fourth-generation member of First Christian Church where he served as chairperson of the property committee, deacon, and longtime usher.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Tom Millay officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will gather in the fellowship hall at First Christian Church for a reception and time of fellowship from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to First Christian Church, 1609 Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
