December 28, 2024, 62, Goldsboro —
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Simone Elizabeth Travis Mather, on Saturday, December 28th, at the age of 62. Simone was born in Alexandria, Virginia, to the late Donald C. Travis, Sr. and Betty Anderson Travis. She was the youngest of their children and was raised in a home filled with love, faith, and devotion.
Simone was a cherished member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where her unwavering faith shaped her life and guided her in all that she did. She was a loving sister, a loyal friend, and a devoted family member. Simone’s compassion, kindness, and deep care for others radiated through everything she touched.
Simone had an extraordinary love for animals, particularly cats. Her constant companion, Caroline, was a source of comfort and companionship. Her kindness extended to all animals, and she found joy in offering care and affection to those in need.
Those who knew Simone will always remember her infectious laugh, her giving heart, and her tireless spirit of service. Even when faced with health challenges and difficult times, Simone’s generosity and her ability to uplift those around her never wavered. Her daily devotionals, which she shared with all who crossed her path, brought comfort, inspiration, and hope to many, and they will be deeply missed.
She is lovingly remembered by her brothers Bill Travis, Sr., Donald Travis and wife Debbie, Wendell Travis and wife Pam, and a wide and loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister Linda Potter and her treasured cats, who brought her so much comfort and joy.
A celebration of Simone’s life will be held at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 3:00 pm, followed by a time to greet friends and family.
In honor of Simone’s love for animals, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local animal shelter or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 2216-7023.
Simone’s loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her light, her laughter, and her boundless love will continue to inspire us all.
