GPD Special Enforcement Unit Makes Significant Impact

To address the rise in violent crimes in the City of Goldsboro, the Goldsboro Police Department launched the Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) on July 1, 2024.

This initiative was established under the direction of Chief of Police Mike West and supported by the Goldsboro City Council, temporarily assigning officers from various ranks and units to focus on gun and drug suppression efforts.

Despite operating with limited staffing, the SEU has played a pivotal role in improving public safety within the community. Their relentless efforts have been recognized not only by the residents of Goldsboro but also by the Investigation Bureau, which has greatly benefited from their invaluable assistance in solving assigned cases.

The results of the Special Enforcement Unit speak to their dedication and impact. To date, the unit has seized:

•           50 firearms

•           2,712 grams of marijuana

•           113 grams of spice

•           97 grams of crack/cocaine

•           60 grams of methamphetamine

•           20 dosage units of PCP

•           6 grams of heroin

•           123 dosage units of MDMA

•           $6,705 in U.S. currency

Approximately 383 warrants/ magistrate orders have been served.

These accomplishments are especially noteworthy given the limited staffing available, underscoring the hard work and dedication of the SEU officers.

As staffing continues to increase, the Special Enforcement Unit will remain active and implement more proactive measures to enhance public safety and target violent crime.

The success of the Special Enforcement Unit is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and resourcefulness of the Goldsboro Police Department.
