Selby Elijah Corbett, age 90, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, in Goldsboro. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Norman Ezra Corbett and Beatrice Smith Corbett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Lora Wiggins Corbett and Diane Smith Corbett, a son, Davis Alan Corbett and brother Douglas Corbett.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, at 2:00 pm by the graveside at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley, NC with Pastor Steve Wellman officiating.

Selby is survived by his daughters Sharon Corbett Mumford (Allen), Marcie Davis (Jeff); grandsons Bradley Davis (Ashley), Chad Davis, Steven Corbett and great-granddaughter Aubrey Davis. Also, special friend and Bridge partner, Dr. Krishnaprasad.

Growing up Selby had a love for farming and gardening, among his other interest was love for the game show network.  He worked for 17 years with Dupont as a instrument mechanic.  Family being important in his life, he also had a deep passion for the game of Bridge, that began after playing the game in Morehead City in the late 50’s.  He was the youngest life master in Wayne County, he won his first major bridge tournament in Virginia.  Being a pilot, he would fly to and from bridge tournaments.  He was very influential in getting sectional bridge tournaments started here in Goldsboro. 

Flowers are welcome or Memorials can be directed to New Hope Methodist Church.
