Opel Deloris Hughes, 85, of Dudley passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, January 10, 2025.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hughes was born in New Mexico to the late Arthur and Lottie Yates Capps. She was a member of The Hydrant Church in Goldsboro. Mrs. Hughes was a long-term civil service employee for the government.
She is survived by her son, Arthur Hughes; two daughters, Kim Hughes (Bobby) and Cindy Pate; one sister, Laura Faye Naylor; two grandchildren, William Kyle Pate (Abby) and Stacey Hughes; one great-grandchild, Lewis Pate; a special friend & caregiver, Shelly Bailey; her beloved dog, Nia and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and close friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ray Hughes; her son, Terry Ray Hughes; her siblings and one grandchild, Torrie Hughes.
Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be directed to The Hydrant Church.
The family is in the care of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
