Emma Geraldine Overcash

January 14, 2025, 90, Goldsboro —

Emma Geraldine Overcash, 90, was welcomed into life eternal on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Born in Rowan County on December 30, 1934, she was daughter to the late John Reece McLaughlin and Ruth Estella Allman McLaughlin.

As a dedicated military wife, Emma faced challenges with unwavering strength. She held the fort down at home while her husband served, embodying resilience and loyalty. Every deployment taught her the value of patience and the importance of community support. She became a pillar of strength for other families, always offering a listening ear or a helping hand. In her eyes, every struggle was an opportunity for growth and understanding.

Emma was the heart of her family and community, a woman whose love knew no bounds. Her yard was a vibrant canvas of colorful flowers and lush greenery, a place where she spent countless hours cultivating beauty and tranquility. Ultimately, Emma’s legacy was one of love—a garden of beautiful memories that would flourish in the hearts of those who knew her, like the blooms she so lovingly tended.

Her kindness extended to everyone she met. Whether it was a neighbor in need or a stranger in the grocery store, Emma had a way of making people feel valued and heard. Her genuine smile and soft-spoken words were enough to brighten anyone’s day. It was no surprise that she was an active member of her church, where her contributions made a difference in the community. In her world, love was the common thread weaving through each relationship and interaction. Emma didn’t just work in her yard; she cultivated connections that grew stronger over time. She lived a life rich in purpose, radiating kindness, compassion, and an enduring love for her family, friends, and faith.

Emma loved babysitting her grand dog, Bandit, more than anything. To Emma, babysitting Bandit was not just an activity; it was a treasure trove of moments – sweet memories curtained with spontaneous belly rubs and the purest love-filled companionship that only a doting grand dog could provide.

Emma was survived by her children, Ginger Carvalho and Jack Overcash, Jr. and wife, Anna; her grandchildren, Kimberly Carvalho, Jennifer Mignone and husband, James, Christopher Overcash and Kayla Overcash; her great-grandchildren, Mason and Myles Mignone; her sister, Barbara Maxwell; her brothers, Bill McLaughlin and wife, Sabine, Robert McLaughlin and wife, Melvina; her aunt, Imogene Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Overcash, Sr.; her sister, Genevelyn McLaughlin; and her son-in-law, Rodney Carvalho.

A service to honor Emma’s life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Sandra Burroughs officiating at 532 Country Day Rd in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Good Shephard Lutheran Church, 532 Country Day Rd, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
