Judith Overman Aycock

February 3, 2025, 84, Goldsboro —

Judith Overman Aycock, 84, completed her earthly journey on Monday, February 3, 2025, while surrounded by her family. Judith was born in Wayne County to the late Julia Hooks Overman on January 16, 1941. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by brother, Fred Lemuel Overman; nephew, Fred Overman; and a dear aunt, Aileen Hooks, also known as Neenie Buck.

Serving as a teacher with Wayne County Public Schools, Judith spent much of her career expanding the knowledge and enriching the lives of third-grade students at Meadow Lane School. Joining in learning and fellowship with other educators, she was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teaching Sorority and the Nahunta Home Extension Club.

Ready to pick up a good book and spend hours journeying through its pages, Judith was an avid reader. Daily reading was a habit for Judith, and her daily routine consistently involved studying the Word of God.

Actively involved as a member of Nahunta Friends Church, Judith regularly taught Sunday school for many years and could be found singing in the choir. Sharing her faith through love to others, she looked out for and nurtured others, especially children.  Often having a Baby Ruth Bar or Cream Cheese Bar ready for the taking, children knew that seeing Ms. Judith always ended with a big smile and a tasty snack. Many know of her care and concern through the numerous meals she shared with others. In all her thoughts and actions, her heart for others was evident.

Dedicated to her family, Judith believed in making them her top priority. Her grandchildren were extremely close to her heart, and she was always there to support them in their endeavors. Watching them play ball or enjoying a ballgame with them was a welcomed excursion any time.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and immediately following the service at the cemetery. A service celebrating Judith’s life will follow the visitation at 12:00 noon in Seymour’s chapel with Steve Lawrence presiding. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Judith is survived by her husband of 62 years, Peter Aycock; sons, Paul Aycock and wife, April and Stephen Aycock and wife, Tyla; grandchildren, Madison Aycock West and husband, Lee, Evan Aycock and wife, Emily, Nicholas Aycock and fiancée, Anna Seguin, and Cameron Aycock; sisters, Betty Wiggins and Faye Jones; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Overman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given in her memory to Nahunta Friends Church, 2537 NC 581 North, Pikeville, NC 27863.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
