Edward Jonas Hinton, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born in Johnston County on December 24, 1940, he was son to the late Jonas Hinton and Ruth Daughtry Hinton.
Ed was not just an ordinary man; he was a symphony of passions and commitments that painted the canvas of his life. A devoted husband, loving father, musician, and a skilled electrician– each role harmonized to create a melody that resonated with joy, dedication, and warmth.
As an electrician, Ed was known for his expertise and remarkable attention to detail. Whether it was wiring a hospital, installing generators during a storm, or troubleshooting a problem, he infused his work with care and pride.
As an early founding member of the Micro Fire Department, Ed embodied the spirit of community and service. His commitment to protecting and helping others reflected his deep love for his town and its people. At the heart of everything was his love for Pat, his unwavering partner of 63 years. Their love story was one for the ages – built on mutual respect, support, and a shared passion for life. Together, they created a nurturing environment for their children, teaching them values of hard work, creativity, and community involvement.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Twigg Hinton; his sons, Michael Hinton and wife, Jenni, Gary Hinton and wife, Angela; his grandchildren, Samantha, Katy, Michael, Payton, Elanie, and Amy; his great-grandchildren, Emma and Delilah; his nephew, Steve Hinton and great-nephew, Chris Hinton.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his son, Jay Hinton and his brother, Gene Hinton.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A graveside service to honor Ed’s life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Selma Memorial Gardens with Pastor Gary Bailey officiating.
