James Robert Rast, 38, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at UNC Wayne Hospital. Robert was born in Wayne County to James Larry Rast and the late Joy Fields Rast on April 24, 1986. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Gene Langley; and paternal grandparents, Mildred and Lonnie Rast.

Robert enjoyed researching and collecting firearms. He was knowledgeable on the different manufacturers and models. Robert spent countless hours at the shooting range perfecting his skill.

Robert loved animals, especially his service dog, Baxter who recently preceded him in death.

Family was paramount to Robert, he loved them all and made sure they knew how much they meant to him.

A service celebrating Robert’s life will be held by the graveside on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Glenn Mills officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Robert is survived by his father, James Larry Rast and wife, Debbie; brother, Matthew Rast; sister, Camille Stocks; grandmother, Bobbie Price Langley; and his aunt and uncle, Sherry and Dwight Gray.
