Traffic Stop by WCSO Leads to Drug Charges

On Feb. 7, members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Violence Prevention and Response team (ViPR) conducted a vehicle stop for a Chapter 20 violation.

Cristopher Jay Chavis, 63, Goldsboro, was found to be in possession of illegal drugs, and paraphernalia and he was also found to be impaired.

Chavis was taken to the Wayne County Magistrate Office where he requested to be transported to the hospital due to ingesting narcotics.

Warrants were secured and once Chavis was released from UNC Health Wayne, he was arrested received no bond, and was then booked into the Wayne County Detention Facility.

Chavis was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of a scheduled VI controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. and driving while impaired.
