Wayne County Under Winter Storm Warning

Wayne County Under Winter Storm Warning

Wayne County is under a winter storm warning from the National Weather Service.

The winter storm warning begins at 7 a.m. on Wednesday and continues until 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for Wayne County and surrounding areas to receive between one and six inches of snow, sleet, and ice.

As of Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service forecast projected Wayne County would receive less than an inch of snow, and less than half an inch of ice.

The heavier precipitation totals are expected to be towards the North Carolina and Virginia border.

Power outages and tree damage could occur due to the ice, especially where the greatest ice accumulation occurs.

Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

These hazardous conditions will likely impact the Wednesday evening and potentially the Thursday morning commutes.

Hazardous travel conditions are most likely to occur late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Consider delaying all travel.

Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
