Elizabeth Williams Fry, 87, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at UNC Health Wayne, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wayne County on May 24, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Blackman Williams and Ada Dunn Williams.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Walter B. Fry, Jr.; grandson, Jeremiah Hensley; and brother, Douglas Williams.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Lisa F. Coone and husband, Randy; sons, David Walter Fry and wife, Toni; and Darryl W. Fry; grandchildren, Elizabeth Amy Coone Czarnecki (Ben), Sally Anna Coone (Justin B. Jenkins), Eugene Walter Coone (Kaley), and Maddux Scott Fry; great-grandchildren, Justin Walter Jenkins, Stella Katherine Jenkins, and Waylon Walter Coone; brother, Linwood Williams (Judy); and sister-in-law, Louise Williams.
Elizabeth was a dedicated and faithful member of Providence Church for many years. She loved her church family and was there every time the doors were open. Elizabeth especially enjoyed going to the Women’s Circles meeting at the church. She was also active with the Ladies Auxiliary at Thoroughfare Volunteer Fire Department where her son and grandsons serve their community.
Incredibly skilled in sewing and quilting, Elizabeth was sought after for her beautiful work. She could make something beautiful out of nearly nothing, always seeing the possibilities before her. Through sewing and her work with the prayer shawl ministry, she formed many cherished friendships. Elizabeth was also a member of the Wayne County Home Extension Club.
Through her various acts of kindness, Elizabeth showed love to many. Her cooking ability was beyond compare, and her family was blessed to enjoy her dishes on a regular basis. Though everything she cooked was excellent, there was nothing better than her potatoes, pound cake and cherry pie. Living near all her immediate family, they all knew Elizabeth was just a phone call away and would be ready to help in any way she could.
A service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Providence Church with Pastor David Pate officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Providence Church, 202 Providence Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
