February 13, 2025, 82, Kinston —
November 14, 1942 – February 13, 2025
Glenda Mae Joyner Jackson McCosley, 82, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025 in Richmond, Virginia. Glenda was born in Sampson County to the late Clement Elliott Joyner and Elsie Mae Sutton Joyner on November 14, 1942. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert “Bobby” Jackson; her husband of thirty years, Allie Edward McCosley; grandsons, Spencer Matthew Jackson and Cameron Harrison Jackson; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Ipock.
As the oldest sibling in her family, Glenda learned from an early age how to care for others and offered her nurturing love to many throughout her life. Serving as a second mom to her siblings, she maintained close contact with them into adulthood and was always aware of what was going on with their children and grandchildren. She took great pride in their accomplishments and loved to share their joys with her friends.
Working in the accounting office at Caswell Center for nearly thirty years, Glenda retired just before the thirty-year mark at the encouragement of her husband so that they could fulfill the longtime dream of traveling. They enjoyed many happy years visiting sights near and far, making the most of their time as they experienced new adventures and enjoyed the company of each other.
As the mother of an only child, Glenda’s relationship with her son, Robert, was exceptionally close. He was her greatest joy, and she loved him deeply. This love extended to his wife and children as his family grew. Through good times and bad, Glenda was a rock for her family. A constant encourager and steady support, her family knew she was on their side and interested in what was best for them.
Going for a visit to see her family in Richmond on November 24, 2024, Glenda’s trip became an opportunity to spend her last few months surrounded by her immediate family. This time was most precious to them all. She especially loved the opportunity to get to know her great-grandchildren and offered the love and spoiling that only a “Nana” can get away with.
A celebration of Glenda’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Rouse Funeral Home with Pastors Allen Ham and Chris Singleton officiating. Committal will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Glenda is survived by her son, Robert Jackson and wife, Jean; grandson, Robby Jackson and wife, Blair; great-grandsons, Dorsett, Davis, and Tate Jackson; siblings, Ruth Langston and husband, Billy, Jane Warren and husband, Dick, Glenn Joyner and wife, Cindy, Kenneth Joyner and wife, Diane; step-son, Danny McCosley and wife, Lisa; step-daughter, Susan Legget and husband, Randy; step-grandchildren, Adam Leggett and wife, Linday, Nicki Davidson and husband, Joey; step-great grandchildren, Coleman Leggett, Sidney Davidson and Kolby Davidson; in-laws, Robert McCosley and wife, Carolyn, Judy Ipock, and Tony McCosley and wife, Candace; and beloved neighbors, John Murray, Judy Moore, and the Goff family.
