WCC’s Moore, Worrell Recognized for Community Service

Two Wayne Community College leaders were honored for their dedication and service to the community at the 100th annual meeting of United Way of Wayne County.

WCC Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Chief of Staff Dorothy Moore was named as the recipient of the 2024 Committee Member of the Year Award. She is a member of the Community Impact Committee.

Moore was recognized as an extraordinary volunteer committee member who displays exceptional leadership, organization, and communication while serving the United Way mission.

Selena Worrell, a member of the WCC Board of Trustees and vice president of operations at Worrell Contracting Co., Inc., was honored with the Emil Rosenthal Volunteer Award.

The award is given to a community volunteer who exhibits a heart for service like Rosenthal, a leader who motivated others to serve the needs of Wayne County.

Worrell, who served as United Way of Wayne County’s 2024 community campaign chair, was commended for decades of service to the community, tireless efforts to create meaningful change, and commitment to making Wayne County a better place for all.

“Dr. Dorothy Moore’s recognition as the United Way Committee Member of the Year reflects her unwavering commitment to making a difference, while Selena Worrell’s Emil Rosenthal Volunteer Award honors her leadership and passion for community service,” said WCC President Patty Pfeiffer. ‘Together, they exemplify the spirit of collaboration and excellence that we strive to uphold at WCC, inspiring us all to contribute positively to our community,”

The United Way of Wayne County is a volunteer-based organization that connects community members with programs and referrals in an effort to restore health and wellness, education, financial stability, and basic needs.
