Sherry Lynn Barnes

February 19, 2025, 67, Kenly —

With heavy hearts, we share the peaceful passing of our beloved Sherry Lynn Barnes on February 19, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on February 1, 1958, in Logan, WV, she was the cherished daughter of the late Mae and Edgar Campbell. From the very beginning, Sherry’s life was marked by endless love, unwavering strength, and a deep sense of devotion to her family and friends. To know Sherry was to experience the beauty of boundless compassion, a woman who never hesitated to give her heart to those she loved.

Sherry grew up in West Virginia before moving to Raleigh in 1993, where she made her home. It was there that she met the love of her life, Wayne, in 1996. Their love story, one that grew stronger with each passing day, flourished into a beautiful marriage in 1998. Together, they shared a bond many could only dream of—one filled with laughter, unwavering support, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

To Sherry, nothing was more precious than her family, and her greatest joy came from being a devoted wife, mother, and, most especially, a doting nanny. Her grandchildren—whom she affectionately called “her babies”—were the light of her life. No one could match the depth of her love and pride for them, and she would have gone to the ends of the earth for each of them. Her heart swelled with happiness each time they were near, and their laughter filled her life with so much joy.

One of Sherry’s closest bonds was with her daughter, Stacie. More than mother and daughter, they were best friends. They shared their days with laughter, love, and deep conversation. Not a single day went by without a call, a text, or a moment to connect. Their bond was unbreakable, a true testament to Sherry’s devotion as both a mother and a friend.

Sherry’s faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her strength. Through every trial and triumph, she always chose to see the good and give all praise and glory to God. Her faith was a guiding light for those around her, offering peace and encouragement to all who needed it.

Sherry deeply loved the holidays when the entire family gathered under one roof. The joy of being surrounded by loved ones, laughing, and making memories together was a gift she cherished deeply. She also found great joy in family vacations—whether it was a trip to the beach or the mountains, and nothing could make her smile like her family’s happiness.

Sherry was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mae and Edgar Campbell; her cherished sister, Janet Williams; and her loving brother, Bruce Campbell.

Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her devoted husband, Wayne Barnes; her beloved daughter, Stacie (Shaun) Wilkerson; her two step-daughters, Kelli (Josh) Wechsberg and Kristy (Andrew) White, whom she loved as her own; her precious grandchildren, Skyler Wechsberg, Tyler Wilkerson, Carter White, and Brady White; and her loving siblings, Harold “Sonny” (Carol) Campbell, Betty Little, Richard (Pam) Campbell, and Vicki (Ray) Dengler. She is also survived by her special niece, Crystal Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will always carry her memory in their hearts.

A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at The Kenly Funeral Home and Cremation at 11:00 AM, where we will gather to share the joy she brought into our lives and honor the love she gave so freely.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A service will be held at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Rodger Wall officiating, where we will gather to share the joy she brought into our lives and honor the love she gave so freely. Interment will conclude at the Bennett Barnes Family Cemetery.

Rest peacefully, sweet Sherry. Your love, your light, and your grace will never be forgotten. You will forever live on in our hearts, and we will carry you with us always—until we meet again.

Services are entrusted to Kenly Funeral and Cremation Service.
