Man Dies After Being Shot Inside Dudley Home on Monday Night

DUDLEY — On Monday at approximately 11:47 pm, Wayne County 911 dispatched Wayne County Deputies to a shooting at 756 Pecan Road in Dudley.

Once deputies arrived, they were met by multiple people living at the residence.

The responding deputies were directed towards a black male victim, Wilbert Lee Stringfield, 83, inside the home who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Wayne County EMS arrived on the scene, attempted life-saving measures on the victim, and pronounced him deceased.

Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were contacted and responded to the scene to begin their investigation.

Stringfield’s body was transported to UNC Health Wayne to be later transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The initial investigation indicates that there may have been more than one shooter involved in this incident, and numerous rounds were fired into the home.

Detectives are following up on multiple leads, and there is no additional information to release at this time.
