Rosetta Barrow Smith

February 26, 2025, 93, Goldsboro —

Rosetta Barrow Smith, 93, stepped into life everlasting with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. Rosetta was born in Greene County to the late Taylor Roosevelt Barrow and Emma Thomas Barrow on May 3, 1931. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Carson Edward Smith; sisters, Ruby Daniels, Gladys Wells, Marie Perry, Jessie Ham and Ann Davis; brothers, James Barrow, Robert Barrow and Wade Barrow; and her adopted brother, Oscar Mooring.

Always full of energy, Rosetta was hard at work from the time her feet hit the floor until she returned to bed at night. Never one to be idle, she was constantly occupied with things that brought her joy. If the weather was good, you could find her spending hours in her well-manicured yard raking, weeding flower beds, or cutting the grass. She’d then go to her garden where she grew a bounty of vegetables, always offering to share her harvest with friends, neighbors, and family. Once back inside, Rosetta was making sure everything was clean and in place before preparing a daily meal for her family.

Constantly putting others before herself, Rosetta was happiest when she was helping someone. For many years, Rosetta was a valued employee of J.P. Stevens, Cedar Grove Nursing Facility and Wayne Pharmacy. Full of love, she had a deep care that was evident not only in word, but also in deed. Friends, family, or stranger alike, her heart was always focused on how she could share the love of Christ through her actions.

Dedicated to service to the Lord, Rosetta was a member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. Faithful in worship when her health allowed, you would find Rosetta seated alongside the rest of her church family, offering praises and thanksgiving.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. in the Snow Hill Cemetery, Snow Hill, NC. Rev. Danny Hamm will officiate. Mrs. Smith will lie in state at Seymour Funeral Home on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Friends are welcome to call on the family at their home at other times.

Rosetta is survived by her sons, Kent Smith and wife Ruth, Bobby Smith and wife Kim, and Stacy Smith; grandchildren, Wendy Hair and husband Scott, Mary Katherine Cruz and husband Matt, Anna Elizabeth Smith, and Lane Ward and wife Lauren; and great-grandchildren, Carson Bennett Hair and Emma Claire Smith. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Sutton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
