Raymond Joel Barrett, 84, died peacefully Sunday, March 2, 2025 at UNC Wayne Hospital. Born July 13, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of the late Patrick and Louise Barrett.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Barrett, and sisters, Kathleen Angeletti and Sharon Kremnitzer.

Ray, as he was affectionately called, was employed by United Airlines for 35 years as a ground technician. His work ethic was strong and he instilled it in his children and grandchildren.

He loved his family more than anything. His family didn’t just include his blood relatives, but his friends were also his family.

Ray was a proud American whose travels through life took him across North America, the Pacific, Britain and Europe; from Colorado’s Great Divide to the Florida Everglades; from Loch Ness to Paris to Lichtenstein.

His memory will forever linger in the hearts of his children, Sean Barrett (Sandra) and Colleen Reid (Mike Crow); grandchildren, Aidan Barrett, Stephanie Barrett, Timothy Reid (Samantha), and Elizabeth Reid; great-grandchildren, Hazel Reid and Briar Reid; brother Kurtiss Hyneman; and his fur-baby, Tango, whom he adored.

At Ray’s request, services will be private.
