It is with great sadness that we announce that “Billy” William Hooks Lane, Jr., 80, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday morning while surrounded by his family. Although we grieve our loss here, we rejoice in that Billy has gone home to his family in heaven.

Billy was born in Wayne County, North Carolina to the late William Hooks Lane, Sr. and the late Helon Taylor Lane. He graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School and proudly served in the US Army. After serving he returned home to North Carolina to start his family and work on the family farm. He later proudly worked as a truck driver hauling loads all over Eastern North Carolina. He was a beloved Father and Grandfather. He was a passionate and dedicated disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, serving, worshipping and fellowshipping at Yelverton Methodist Church all his life. He was well-known for his kindness to his community and neighbors. He had a wonderful joy and enthusiasm that he spread to all. He was often seen on the go traveling about the community on one project or another. He will be missed by all that knew him.

All are invited to a memorial “potluck” dinner with the family at Mount Carmel Church, 610 Mt Carmel Church Rd, Pikeville, NC 27863 on Friday March 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Bring your favorite dish as we remember and rejoice in Billy’s homecoming and offer comfort to the family and one another. Billy will lay in repose at Mount Carmel Church in the sanctuary during the memorial potluck. The following day a service to celebrate Billy’s life will be held Saturday March 15, 2025, at Yelverton Methodist Church, 1194 Faro Road, Fremont, NC 27830 at 1:00 pm with burial following in Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 US 117, Dudley, NC 28333.

He is survived by his sons, Ryan Lane and wife, Becky-Jo of Pikeville, Jonathan Lane and wife, Jennifer of Goldsboro, his Grandchildren, Victoria Lane Regulski and husband Drew of Cary, Michael Lane and Bridgette Lane of Pikeville, Annabelle Lane and Willow Lane of Goldsboro, sisters, Betsy Lane Hales of Prattville, AL, and Faye Lane Thigpen of Goldsboro, as well as his beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a son, William “Hooks” Lane, III, and a brother, Walter Mark Lane.
The family would like to thank the multitude of family and friends and their support through this difficult time. A special thank you to 3HC Home Hospice of Goldsboro for their help.
