March 6, 2025, 83, Goldsboro — Goldsboro-Stanley Leon Hartley, 83, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wayne County on April 1, 1941, he was the son of the late William Arthur Hartley and Mary Woodard Hartley Beard.

In addition to his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by his brother, W.G. Hartley; sister, Geraldine Parrish (Elton), infant sister, Barbara Hartley; grandson, Patrick Stanley Howell; sister-in-law, Ellen Massengill (Tommy); and special aunt and uncle, James and Flossie “Tot” Sutton.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lynn Sutton Hartley; daughter, Lynette Hartley Howell (Frankie); grandchildren, Melissa Howell Beasley (Danny) and Garrett Howell (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Coralynn Beasley, Cash Beasley, Britt Howell, and Hartley Howell; siblings, Dennis Hartley (Elaine) and Sandra Wilson (Wiley); brother-in-law, James Shelton Sutton; sister-in-law, Gladys Hartley; special friends, Linwood and Judy Williams, Gene Reich, and Susan Poole; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Stanley was known for his unwavering dedication to his passions, his love for music, and his commitment to his family and faith.

A lifelong music enthusiast, Stanley was the proud owner of The Record Rack in downtown Goldsboro for 35 years. His beloved record store became a gathering place for music lovers of all ages. His vast knowledge of music, coupled with his warm and approachable demeanor, made him a trusted advisor to many who sought his expertise on everything from vinyl records to rare music finds. Stanley’s passion for music was matched only by his love for sharing it with others, and The Record Rack remains a cherished memory in the hearts of all who visited.

Prior to owning The Record Rack, Stanley worked with the News-Argus in advertising, where he built lasting relationships and helped many businesses grow.In addition to his musical talents, Stanley was a dedicated coach and mentor to generations of young women. For many years, he coached women’s softball, instilling in his players the values of teamwork, discipline, and hard work. His leadership on and off the field earned him the respect of players, parents, and peers alike.

Stanley was also a proud member of the Wayne County Horseless Carriage Club. His dedication to preserving the past and sharing its stories made him a valued member of the community.

A faithful member of Eureka Christian Church, Stanley’s love for the Lord was evident in everything he did. He was an active participant in church activities and a trusted friend to many in his congregation. His deep faith, kindness, and generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Above all, Stanley cherished his family. His devotion to his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was unwavering, and his love for them was evident in every aspect of his life. Stanley will be remembered not only for his many accomplishments but also for his kind heart, his sense of humor, and his deep love for the people around him.

Stanley’s memory will live on in the music he shared, the lives he touched, and the legacy of love and faith he leaves behind.

A service to celebrate Stanley’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Massey, Rev. Frank Purvis, and Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Wayne Memorial Park.
