PRINCETON — The University of Mount Olive online MBA program is home to many inspiring stories, and Gaye Pate of Princeton is one of them. Her story is one of determination, adaptability, and a lifelong passion for learning.

Pate’s path was set in motion during her formative years at Mount Olive College.

Graduating with her undergraduate degree in 1991, she discovered a deep passion for accounting during her very first class.

“I just loved it,” Pate said.

That initial spark not only defined her academic focus but also laid the groundwork for a career in the field.

Even as she faced the challenges of the CPA exam and the traditional methods of pencil-and-paper accounting, she embraced every learning opportunity, forging a strong professional foundation.

After college, Pate’s life evolved beyond the classroom. She devoted herself to her career and growing family, becoming a mother to three children, Jackson, Lauren, and Evan, with her husband, Eric.

Over the years, she built an impressive and varied work history—ranging from stints at multiple CPA firms to ventures in real estate development and even entrepreneurship with a lucrative tanning salon near the NC State campus.

Pate’s relentless work ethic and problem-solving skills enabled her to navigate the demands of balancing family responsibilities with a multifaceted career.

Today, Pate serves as the controller at Collins Boats, a role she has excelled in for the past 10 years.

Despite a successful career, her thirst for knowledge and personal fulfillment has driven her to pursue an online MBA. For Pate, this isn’t a career pivot but rather a chance to achieve a long-held personal goal.

The online program presents its own set of challenges—from adapting to six-week intensive sessions to mastering advanced Excel techniques—but she meets them head-on.

“Learning advanced Excel formulas has been a game changer for me,” Pate explained, emphasizing how these new tools have streamlined her work and enhanced her efficiency.

Pate’s experience in balancing work, family, and study underscores her unwavering commitment to continuous learning and excellence.

Pate’s pursuit of an MBA is a testament to her belief that education is a lifelong journey.

“It’s not merely about professional advancement; it’s about personal achievement and the satisfaction that comes from overcoming challenges,” Pate said.

Her story inspires non-traditional students everywhere and underscores the intrinsic rewards of embracing education at every stage of life.

“It’s never too late to follow your passion, evolve your skills, and set new milestones for personal growth,” Pate said.
