Mr. Stephen Morris Sutton, 64, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, during recovery from heart surgery. Steve was born in Radford, VA, the son of Lambert Morris Sutton and Barbara Tate Sutton. He graduated from Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, VA, and then received a B.S. in Business Marketing from Virginia Tech. Following his graduation, he began a 40-plus-year career in the wholesale grocery business, beginning with Southgate Brokerage in Roanoke, and retiring from Advantage Solutions in 2024. Like his dad, Steve loved to buy, sell and trade antiques, and made many lifelong friends in that world. He was also one of the biggest Virginia Tech Hokie fans known to mankind and could often be spotted dressed head to toe in Chicago maroon and burnt orange at any Hokie event. His best days, however, were simply spent sharing time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his brother, Lambert Rahn Sutton and wife Wanda Davis Sutton, of Raleigh, NC, his two nieces, Kyleigh Sutton Albrecht (Josh) of Denver, CO and Catherine Reid Sutton of Boston, MA, as well as his nephew, Grayson Rahn Sutton, of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his loving aunt Peggy Sutton Brewer of Faison, NC, and uncles Gerald Warren of Newton Grove, NC and Roger Tate of Danville, Va. He will be greatly missed by his dear cousin Tina Brewer Bernhardt (David), who is often described as the sister he never had. He also so loved spending time with his other cousins – Todd Brewer (Michelle), Brandon Warren (Mandy), Bartley Warren (Amy), Jo Ann Poteat, Pam Davis (Kevin), Renee’ Shumate (Melvin), Tamara Gill (Eric) and Doug Liggon (Veronica) and their families.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Virginia Tech Hokie Club Hokie Scholarship Fund, American Diabetes Association or a favorite charity of one’s choice.
Shumate-Faulk is pleased to serve the Sutton family.
