Betty Lou Barnes Tillman, 80, passed away peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Barnes and Hazel Edgerton Barnes.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Billy Tillman; her boys, Danny Tillman and wife, Leigh, Neil Tillman and wife Michelle, and Brian Tillman and wife, Lori; grandchildren, Leiren Tillman, Matthew Tillman and wife, Kat, Hunter Walston and husband, Michael, Ryan Tillman, Alex Tillman, Cody Tillman; great-grandchildren, Abigail Tillman, Hunter Ortega and wife, Kristen, and Haylee Ortega; sister Margie Holmes and husband, Kenneth; nephew, Donald Holmes and wife, Elgie; and niece, Diane Smith and husband, Lonnie.
As a homemaker, Betty was the heartbeat of her family. She took great pride in keeping her home a place of warmth and comfort, where love and care were always present. Betty was known for her immaculate house and her deep love for gardening. Whether it was tending to her flowers or working in the yard, she found joy in nurturing the earth around her.
But above all, Betty’s greatest passion was her family. A devoted farmer’s wife, she worked tirelessly alongside her husband to care for their land, their home, and their precious boys. Her strength, kindness, and unwavering support were the foundation upon which her family flourished. Betty’s love for her boys was boundless, and she dedicated her life to ensuring they felt her love and guidance every single day.
Her faith in the Lord was a constant source of strength. Betty lived her life with grace, humility, and a deep sense of devotion to God. Her faith was a beacon of light to all who knew her, and she instilled the importance of love, kindness, and faith in her children and those around her.
A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held in the mausoleum chapel of Wayne Memorial Park on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and as well as other times at the home.
