MOUNT OLIVE — Friday afternoon firefighters from Oak Wolfe and Mount Olive were dispatched to the scene of a vehicle fire at the intersection of Highway 403 and Garner Chapel Road in front of the Dollar General
store.
As firefighters arrived on the scene they found an 18-wheeler sitting at the stop sign on Highway 403 facing south fully engulfed in flames.
The truck was loaded with wood shavings.
The Mount Olive fire engine and tanker along with several units from Oak Wolfe quickly dropped an attack line on the ground and quickly knocked down the blaze bringing the fire under control in a short period of time.
Several Duplin County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene to assist in traffic control around the scene.
The incident is being investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Kennedy’s garage and wreckers service arrived on the scene and started the process of cleaning up the debris from the roadway.
