Wayne County Bridge Renamed to Honor Fallen State Trooper

A Wayne County Bridge was renamed on Tuesday to honor a fallen member North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The bridge on US 117, just north of Old Mount Olive Highway, was renamed Patrolman Isaac T Moore bridge” in honor of trooper Isaac T. Moore, who was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1937.

The resolution for Moore reads:

WHEREAS, Patrolman Isaac T. Moore served with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for two years; and,

WHEREAS, Patrolman Moore was shot and killed June 18, 1937, while questioning two suspects who had been stopped along U.S. 117 while hauling about 500 pounds of meat in a vehicle later found to be stolen; and,

WHEREAS, the citizens of Wayne County and North Carolina are grateful for Patrolman Moore and individuals like him who make the ultimate sacrifice to protect their families, friends and neighbors; and, WHEREAS, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol wishes to honor Patrolman Moore for his distinguished public service to the state of North Carolina; and,

WHEREAS, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol requests that the N.C. Board of Transportation name a bridge in honor of Patrolman Moore.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
That the North Carolina Board of Transportation names the bridge on U.S. 117 over the Neuse River north of Old Mount Olive Highway in Wayne County the Patrolman Isaac T Moore Bridge.

That appropriate signs will be erected at a suitable time.
