March 29, 2025, 86, Goldsboro —
Alvin Cornelius “A.C.” Taylor, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, March 29, 2025. Alvin was born in Duplin County on May 10, 1938. He was the son of Eddie Cornelius Taylor and Pearl Smith Taylor. Alvin loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a lifelong member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, where he was instrumental in getting the bus program up and running in its formative years. He also sang in the choir for many years.
For those of us who knew them, it was obvious that Alvin and his wife, Barbara, were put on this earth to love one another. They were married for 56 years when she passed away in January of 2024. His light burned a little less bright after that, but he held on for thirteen months before finally going to join her. Together they raised two daughters – Mary Kay Newcomb (Eddie) and Tina Faye Mitchell (Troy). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelly Kornegay (Tommy), Drew Sykes (Ashley), Chelsey Brown (Jonah), Tiffany Wells(Dylan), Tiffany Sweigert (Zach), Chris Stallings, Matthew, Josh, and Dustin Mitchell. His great-grandchildren, Kayden Newcomb, Avery Pearl Spencer, Guage Norris, Tank Kornegay, Madilyn, Rylen, and Maisi Sykes, Daniel and Kaylee Sykes, Jordan and Aldon Wells, Colton Sweigert, and Leo Mitchell. And the newest addition, a great-great-grandson, Brantley Keith Norris. He is also survived by his brother Robert Taylor (Myra) of Warsaw, NC, and many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Kay, would also like to extend a very, very special thank you to his caregiver Lisa Cutlip, without whom these last few months would not have been possible.
In addition to his wife, Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and by his two sisters, Inez Taylor and Eleanor Stevens, a brother John Taylor, and a great-great-granddaughter Adalyn Mae Martha Kornegay.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Hemant Patel and Reverend Jeff Toler officiating.
