Gilbert Edward Lee, 58, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at UNC Health Wayne in Goldsboro. Born in Wayne County on July 28, 1966, he was the son of the late Robert David Lee and Elizabeth Smith Edmundson.

In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by his sister, Rhonda Darlene Lee; brother, Robert Clifton Lee; maternal grandparents, Odie Edward Smith and Mary Evelyn Radford; and paternal grandparents, Johnny Gilbert Lee and Nellie Harriet Marlow.

Gilbert worked with Wayne Opportunity Center in Goldsboro and was known for his kind spirit and appreciation for life’s simple joys. He could often be found riding his bicycle through Goldsboro, a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. He had a deep admiration for firefighters and was fascinated by the work of the Goldsboro Fire Department, always appreciating their dedication and bravery.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cobb Cemetery in Jason, NC, with Rev. William Pickett officiating. Later that evening, a service celebrating Gilbert’s life will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Unity Fellowship Church, 697 Community Drive, Goldsboro, with Rev. Kelvin Gurley officiating. The family will greet friends following both services.

Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Myra Gail Quinn of Goldsboro, Betty Sue Daughtry of Snow Hill, Lisa Harriet Grant of Goldsboro, Karen Elizabeth Acevedo of Auburn, NY, and Johnny Ray Lee of Butner; as well as one uncle, one aunt, and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Susan Leonard, Billy Ray Folgers and Gary Person, who held a special place in his heart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Rouse Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
