Shirley Barnes Blackman, age 88, passed away on Sunday, March 23rd at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wilson County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Ernest Barnes and Annie Mae Adams Barnes. She was the wife of the late William Bertus Blackman. Shirley was loved by all and especially the students’ lives she helped to mold through her over 50 years of working with the Wayne County Public Schools. She was a member of the Love Memorial Baptist Church, the Red Hat Club and formerly a member of the Southern Wayne Women’s Club. She dearly loved her girls and their Domino’s Club.

A service to celebrate her long and well lived life will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Love Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Toler and Mr. Steve Blackman officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Sherrill Blackman and Steven Blackman and his wife, Teresa; a brother, Ernest Ray Barnes; a sister, Janet Dillard; and two grandsons, William Blackman and Chad Toler.
