Joseph Francis Glenn was born to the late Bertha and William Howard Glenn on July 27, 1946 in Orange County, Virginia. He departed from this life on Sunday, April 6, 2025 after a long illness complicated by diabetes. He passed peacefully at UNC Wayne Hospital.
Joseph received his education in the Orange County school system, graduating from Carver Regional High School in 1964. He graduated from Federal City College in Maryland earning a degree of Bachelor of Arts. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Joseph was very ambitious. He was employed at the Prevention and Treatment Center in Goldsboro, retiring with twenty years of dedicated service, serving as a Behavior Specialist.
He was a member of Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was a dedicated deacon and he loved attending church services and Bible classes on Wednesday night. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Shirley Worrell Glenn; one stepdaughter, Pamela Bell (Gaston) of San Antonio, Texas; one stepson, Willie Murray II (Dionne) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; one sister, Jane Glenn of Orange County, Virginia; four sisters-in-law, Michelle Glenn of Suffolk, Virginia, Sylvia Sharif of Atlanta, Georgia; Gertrude McBride of Williamson, Georgia and Betty Best of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Dwight Glenn of Goldsboro, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Donnell Worrell of Olive Branch, Mississippi and George Worrell (Angeline) of Egg Harbor, New Jersey; six grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, relatives and friends.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley. The family will receive friends Friday, April 11, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.
