GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A death investigation is underway after an unresponsive individual was discovered in a field behind several businesses on East Ash Street Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025.

According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers were called to the 2300 block of E. Ash Street around 10:30 a.m. for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they located an unresponsive person lying in a field. Wayne County EMS pronounced the individual dead at the scene.

The Investigative Services Bureau and Crime Scene Unit responded and have launched an active investigation. The identity of the deceased remains unknown at this time, and authorities have not released any further details.

Officials stated that out of respect for the investigative process and to maintain accuracy, additional information will be released as it becomes available.
