Goldsboro, N.C. — Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) Superintendent Dr. Marc Whichard unveiled a $212 million proposed budget for fiscal year 2025–2026 during this week’s Board of Education meeting. The plan focuses on key district priorities, including safety and security, capital facility needs, staffing, and academic and extracurricular enhancements.
The proposed budget supports continued investment in:
- School Resource Officers (SROs)
- Exceptional Children (EC) programs
- Media and Fine Arts programs
- Middle school athletics
- Increased supplements for athletic staff and certified educators
Dr. Whichard emphasized a balanced approach: “Wise planning and sound budgetary practices have emerged as hallmarks for our district,” he said. “This budget reflects our commitment to academic growth, safer campuses, and enhanced opportunities for both students and staff.”
The public can review the full proposal at waynecountyschools.org or in person at Central Services on Royall Avenue. Comments are accepted through April 29, and the final budget is scheduled for a vote on May 5.
