MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (April 8) – It was a Senior Day to remember at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center as both the University of Mount Olive men’s and women’s tennis teams scored thrilling 4-3 victories over Barton in Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday afternoon.
With the wins, the women’s team extended their win streak to five, improving to 8-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while the men’s team moved to 8-8 on the year and 5-1 in league action, beating a nationally-ranked Barton squad (#44).
Women’s Match Highlights:
Despite dropping all three doubles matches, the Trojans dominated in singles, winning four of six. Freshman Julie Jagiella clinched the win with a clutch three-set victory in the No. 6 spot, while Victoria Calle, Nina Bernier, and Lara Stamereilers also notched singles wins.
Men’s Match Highlights:
The men secured the doubles point behind strong performances from Carstensen/Dalbak and Poel/Gruenefeldt. In singles, wins by Kristoffer Dalbak, Bram Poel, and freshman Hiroma Nishikata—who clinched the match—sealed the hard-fought victory.
Both teams celebrated their seniors and are now eyeing the postseason with momentum on their side.
The UMO women host Division I NC Central in a non-conference match on Sunday, April 13, while the men hit the road for three straight conference showdowns, starting at Francis Marion on April 16.
