WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. – Thursday was the grand opening for the Farm Credit Farmer’s Market, and a key individual within the community is the face behind it. Leigh Strickland, the former manager at Charles B Aycock birth place has taken the initiative to give local farmers and small businesses the voice they needed.
Leigh Strickland, the coordinator for the Farm Credit Farmer’s Market voiced her reasoning for her hand within the community. “I’ve lived here. I was born here in Wayne County,” Leigh Said. “I enjoy working with people in the community. It is great to be able to bring forth farmers and other vendors together with local people in the community to share the talent and craft of the farmers and vendors.”
Upon the Farmer’s Market initial opening, Leigh stated that the Farmer’s Market will be participating in the upcoming events. We Dig It! Farm Festival that occurs April 12th from 9a.m. to 2p.m. at the Farmer’s Market, The Day of the Child on April 30th , the Master Gardeners plant sale event, on May 10th, and Discovery Day scheduled for August. “Discovery Day is the time to let people mingle and learn about the resources we do offer here in the county.”
The Farmer’s Market will be open April through December on Thursday’s from 9a.m. to 3p.m. Friday from 9a.m. to 6p.m. And Saturday from 9a.m. to 3p.m. Based on the grand opening turnout, the locals were pleased and the community will continue to support the Farmer’s Market, as the intention is much needed to encourage local skill and craft.
