ROME, Ga. (April 12) –The University of Mount Olive baseball team split a doubleheader against Shorter on April 12 in Conference Carolinas play. Despite losing 2-1 in Game 1, the Trojans bounced back with a 6-1 victory in Game 2.
In Game 2, Lucas Glover pitched a strong 7 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out six to earn the win. Mount Olive took an early lead with an RBI single from Lane McLean and a run from a wild pitch. After Shorter cut the lead to 2-1 with a solo home run, McLean added two more RBIs with a single in the seventh, and the Trojans sealed the win with a throwing error. McLean finished with three RBIs, three stolen bases, and a 3-for-5 performance. Kayden Crawford also contributed with a 2-for-5 outing.
In Game 1, Shorter led early with two runs, and although Mount Olive’s Crawford homered in the sixth to make it 2-1, the Trojans couldn’t complete the comeback. John Horton took the loss after pitching six innings with two earned runs.
With the split, Mount Olive’s record stands at 22-18 overall and 12-12 in the conference, with eight games left in the regular season. The Trojans will next play on April 16 against Newberry in non-conference action.
