Goldsboro, NC – If you ever wondered what is in the heart of Goldsboro, the recent success of the Elks Lodge’s St. Baldrick’s “Cuts for Cures” event might just convince you otherwise.
On a day filled with compassion, community, and clippers, over 500 people came out for research into childhood cancer at the Goldsboro Elks Lodge. In a bald (and bold) show of solidarity, 25 individuals went bald and raised awareness and dollars for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The result? A staggering $36,000 raised — close to twice the original goal.
“No, that’s not a typo,” event organizers clarified. “We had already raised more than our $20,000 goal before the event even began. Goldsboro is a community that never fails to amaze us with its generosity.”
One of them brave enough to shave his head again this year? Jeff Farrow, whose annual participation gave him a special shout-out and heartfelt thanks from the Elks Lodge and the community of Goldsboro.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest charity grant donor of research for childhood cancer. To date, since it was founded in 2005, it has raised over $340 million to support cutting-edge research — giving children everywhere a fairer shot at conquering cancer.
“All of us at the Goldsboro Elks Lodge feel every dollar raised brings us closer to a cure,” organizers said. “We are proud to support St. Baldrick’s and even prouder to be part of an organization that shows up with so much heart.”
