Lönnqvist Makes History as Mount Olive Finishes Runner-Up at Conference Carolinas Championship

Freshman Oscar Lönnqvist made history for the University of Mount Olive (UMO) by winning individual medalist honors at the Conference Carolinas Championship on April 15, becoming just the third golfer in program history — and the first freshman — to do so. He finished with a three-under 213 over 54 holes (71-70-72), totaling 12 birdies and 34 pars, and earned All-Tournament honors.

UMO finished runner-up in the team standings for the second straight year with a score of 20-over 884, marking the program’s fifth consecutive top-three finish at the event. The team significantly outperformed preseason predictions, having been picked to finish ninth.

Other highlights:

  • Shawn Benson tied for 7th and earned his first All-Tournament honors with a score of five-over 221.
  • Lavrans Broen Holms tied for 28th, posting his best round (74) on the final day.
  • Gabriel Ekholm shot even-par (72) with an eagle on the 18th hole.
  • Jonas Arnstrom Bakker contributed with a one-over 73.

Barton College won the team title for the third year in a row with a score of 11-over 875, nine strokes ahead of UMO.
