April 20, 2025, 85, Goldsboro —
Albert Daniel “Al” Nesbitt, 85, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Born on September 11, 1939, in Sumter, South Carolina, Al was the son of the late John Jay Nesbitt and Cora Mae Mathis Nesbitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Beth Nesbitt, Ronald H. Nesbitt, and Patricia A. Alford.
A proud veteran, Al served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. He later became a dedicated and respected employee of Coble Dairy, where he worked faithfully for over 50 years. Even after retirement, his strong work ethic and commitment to community continued through his role as project manager at Griffin Exterminating, where he served for 13 years.
For more than three decades, Al was an active and devoted member of Gideons International, Goldsboro South Camp, sharing God’s Word with passion and purpose. His faith was also deeply rooted in his home church, Faith Free Will Baptist Church, where he served tirelessly in various ministries, including the Bus Ministry and Usher Ministry. Alongside his beloved wife Linda, they lovingly coordinated countless church trips—especially for the “more experienced,” as he fondly referred to the seniors of the congregation.
Al’s joys in life were simple yet profound. He cherished time spent fishing, watching NASCAR, golfing with friends, and gathering around the table for a spirited game of Phase 10. He was known for his warm smile, quick wit, and the joy he found in good conversation and hearty laughter. Above all, Al was a man devoted to his family—he will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, Papa, and friend. His legacy of faith, integrity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 52 years, Linda Knox Nesbitt; sons, Daniel “Dan” A. Nesbitt and wife Carol, and John F. Nesbitt and wife Kimberly; daughters, Valeda A. Hogeland and husband Joe, and Tracy E. Martin; grandchildren, Alex, Lauren, Brody, Parker, Macy, Johnny, Kaylee, Alysha, and Kara; and great-grandchildren, Preston, Julia, and Maisy. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert D. Nesbitt and Donald R. Nesbitt; sisters, Jonnie M. Dockery, Ada L. Atkinson, and Loretta E. Atkinson; and many nieces and nephews he loved very much.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, followed by a service celebrating Al’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary, with Rev. Christian Powell and Rev. Hemant Patel officiating. A private interment for the family will be at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Goldsboro South Camp, P.O. Box 509, Goldsboro, NC 27533-0509.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
