April 19, 2025, 80, Goldsboro —
grace, love, and unwavering faith, Rev. James Craig Langston, 80, was called home to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Wayne County on July 30, 1944, Craig was the beloved son of the late Jack and Louise Langston. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Janice Langston Newsome and her husband, Jim, and his brother-in-law, Roy Mason.
Craig’s life was a tapestry of service, commitment, and compassion. He began his career in ground operations with Piedmont Airlines, continuing through its transition to U.S. Air, where he retired with distinction. Afterward, he dedicated time to teaching within the Wayne County Public Schools, touching the lives of students with his steady presence and kind heart.
It was during this chapter that Craig answered a higher calling—one that led him to Divinity School at Duke University. There, he embraced his ministry and served faithfully as a United Methodist pastor at Turkey United Methodist Church, Falling Creek United Methodist Church, Friendship United Methodist Church, and Unity United Methodist Church. His preaching was heartfelt, his counsel wise, and his care for his congregations sincere and enduring.
In his later years, Craig continued his ministry as a devoted member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He found particular joy and purpose in the church’s Judgement House Ministry, offering guidance and compassion in the counseling room, and never hesitating to reach out to those seeking solace or salvation. He also loved visiting members of the church and community—Craig never missed an opportunity to connect, encourage, and share the light of his faith.
Above all, Craig was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. His greatest joy came from being present for his family, providing for them with steadfast love and quiet strength. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet Herring Langston; his sons, David Langston and Marc Langston; sister-in-law, Kaye Mason; and many cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 12:00 noon at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, with Rev. Bill Rose officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Craig’s memory to The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
A life well-lived in faith, love, and service—Rev. James Craig Langston leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
